You may have noticed my considerable absence. I've been busy of course, but I also re-installed NWN and now I can't enter anymore. Missing some CEP file or another.

I can probably find the missing bits on my own when I can be bothered to look for them, but if soneone already happens to have a link to the correct complete CEP package in .zip, .rar or comparable archive form (not with a built-in installer, please .. I probably can't run it), that'd help loads.

The CEP downloads page was very confusing, with different versions, for different versions of the game, some parts broken down to their own packages as updates I'm not sure I need, and suspected mislabelings in several places. I thought I got the right package, but doesn't look like it...

yeah, the whole CEP download page is a friggin mess.

you'll need this package for the windows self installer:

http://nwvault.ign.com/fms/Download.php?id=118189

or this one for the self install/linux version:

http://nwvault.ign.com/fms/Download.php?id=118186

AND, i think you might need this one, but Fren said he didn't. might as well get it though.

The self install/linux version is what I got. The other one included just one file that was already in the first package but different, so I put that on top as well. Hope its newer or something.

But I was still missing cep2_top_v1.hak, which was included in cep2_top_multi.rar. Now I can at least log in, but I wonder if I got the right set..

oh, right. i forgot it still used cep2_top_v1.hak for some stuff. actually, it may or may not, now that i think of it. i could set the module to not require that file, but i'm afraid of all the testing i'd have to do to make sure i'm not missing something. i'd have to pretyt much go through EVERY placeable to see. Image

the 3rd link i posted, which turned out to be just one file, should have been another top file, which replaced the other "top" file. this is because there was a bug in the full install versions where they didn't hit the "can be magical item" toggle button on the torches item class. this is why our holy symbols didn't have magical properties. i had to get that updated one to fix this.

after spending two days trying to figure this out, i did complain that their "final release" version had a bug, and you had to dig through the page to notice there was a fix buried in there and why they just didn't post a new "final release". the guy said because it was a "hassle" because he had to send an email to the nwvault people in order to be able to upload something bigger than 30 meg.

Can these be installed in any order? Because I had already downloaded CEP 2.1 and installedit it and said i was missing top_1 file so i installed CEP 2.0 over the top and my main nwn.exe wouldn't boot up.

oh that's definitely not going to work. you should use one of the full CEP v2.1 installers, then download that one file and copy it over replacing the file from the full installer.

Alright... I dont know why I make things so much harder than what they are... but thats part of my charm.

Anyways...

I went and got the cep files listed here

So I did that and went to log on and I was able to and was able to see the millions of my characters but when I logged in it gave me that error where it couldnt find the cep2_top_v1.hak

Sooo.. I went to the third link that dood posted and extracted the hak right over the top of the old one and that didnt work either.

What am I doing wrong? Why cant God just send me a man over here that knows what he is doing when I need one and then make him leave when I am finished with his services.

i have no idea about that, but it sounds like a problem with windows. what version are you using? is it windows 7? vista? i've only run xp and never had problems.

one thing that's worked well for me is to either cut and paste or retype the error message into google. chances are, somebody else will have the same problem.

or just search nwn on windows 7 / vista / whatever.
